YES, thank you for asking — this is probably my favorite thing to talk about! Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a modern, evidence-based approach to therapy that helps clients build psychological flexibility: a skill of staying present and taking meaningful action in line with one’s personal values, even when faced with difficult thoughts or emotions. Rather than struggling to eliminate discomfort, ACT contains experiential and practical skills to accept what’s out of our control and focus our energy & vitality on what truly matters. ACT is greate for everyday anxiety, depression, stress, and many other challenges, and there is a growing body of evidence that it is exceptionally effective for challenging mental health concerns, such as clients experiencing chronic pain, psychotic symptoms, and obsessive-compulsive disorder.
